Archaeological Dig commences at Market Hall site, Bromsgrove
Hinton Group are pleased to confirm that we have now received detailed planning consent for the first phase of our proposed Waitrose led redevelopment of the former Market Hall site in Bromsgrove town centre.
The site itself is of high archaeological interest, being situated in the historic core of the town close to the medieval market site. As such, in July 2013, a community dig was undertaken, revealing late 17th Century archaeology on land where the most recent Market Hall stood.
In order to ascertain what additional archaeology may lie within the subject site, Hinton Group has instructed Worcestershire Archaeology, who undertook the community dig back in 2013, to dig out and investigate an area of approximately 32 sq m underneath where the Waitrose food store will stand.
With the subject area now hoarded off, the dig itself will begin on 23rd May. Investigations should take a week with the findings being published a further 3 weeks thereafter.
Construction works for the proposed development are targeted to commence in August / September 2016 with the foodstore open for trading in May 2017.
